Remembering David Sorlie: A Dedicated Inspector and Beloved Family Man

The Indiana Weights and Measures Association mourns the loss of David W. Sorlie, a retired inspector for the City of Fort Wayne, who passed away peacefully at home on November 6, 2024. David's life was a testament to hard work, dedication, and the importance of family.

Born at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, David was instilled with a strong sense of duty and service, following in the footsteps of his father, a Marine. He carried these values into his professional life, first as a tire builder at BF Goodrich for 20 years and later as a weights and measures inspector for Fort Wayne. In his role, David embodied the spirit of fairness and precision, ensuring that consumers and businesses alike could trust the accuracy of their transactions.

David's career in weights and measures was a vital contribution to the Fort Wayne community, safeguarding equity in trade and maintaining public trust. His work reflected his unwavering commitment to doing what was right, a quality that earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and community members alike.

Outside of his professional life, David was a devoted husband to Lana, a proud father to Caleb and Kyle, and a cherished grandfather and great-grandfather. Family was the cornerstone of David’s life, and he found immense joy in creating lasting memories with his loved ones. His kindness, humor, and contagious laughter touched everyone who knew him.

David's passing leaves a profound void in both his family and the broader community. His contributions to the field of weights and measures, as well as his legacy of compassion and integrity, will not be forgotten.
