It is with a heavy heart that we remember Roger Lee Downhour, who passed away at the age of 76 on April 8, 2024, in Farmington, New Mexico. Born on January 8, 1948, in Kokomo, Indiana, to Clarence and Dorothy Downhour, Roger's life was a testament to kindness, faith, and perseverance.

Roger dedicated his career to serving as a weights and measures inspector in Elkhart County, Indiana. His commitment to ensuring fairness and accuracy in trade was a reflection of his integrity and dedication. In his free time, Roger could often be found enjoying the great outdoors, indulging in his favorite pastimes of golfing, fishing, and target shooting. He was a familiar face at the San Juan Wildlife Federation, where he enjoyed working at the gate on Saturday mornings.

A proud veteran of the Army National Guard, Roger's sense of duty and service extended beyond his professional life. Twenty years ago, he underwent a heart transplant, a life-changing event that inspired him to become a passionate advocate for organ donation. Roger's experience fueled his desire to raise awareness and encourage others to consider the gift of life through organ donation.

Roger was also a devoted member of his church community, where his warm, friendly nature and deep faith endeared him to many. His love for the Lord brought him immense joy and guided his actions throughout his life. Roger's ability to connect with people from all walks of life was a testament to his genuine interest in and compassion for others.

Roger is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Downhour, his stepson Eric Settles, his brother Richard Downhour of Arizona, and his sister Bobbie Palmer of Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Dorothy Downhour.

Roger Lee Downhour's legacy is one of warmth, faith, and unwavering advocacy. He touched the lives of many, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness. As we remember Roger, we celebrate the life of a man who loved deeply, served faithfully, and inspired others through his actions and beliefs.
